WATER & IT'S MANAGEMENT

Open Well

The farm's water source is one of the oldest wells in the village and is located right at the heart of the farm. The well which was about 32ft wide and 45ft deep had no water in the year 2017. We deepened the well all the way to 90ft and saw little channels of water flowing from the wall of the well. Bore holes were drilled on the side walls of the well and we were fortunate enough to get good water into the well. The well is currently the only source of water for the entire farm.

Rain-water harvesting

In the early days of the establishment, we dug water channels on the North and East side of the farm. This is to collect the rainwater which flows from the fields at higher elevation on the Northern side. The rainwater flows into two farm ponds and excess water goes to the fields at lower elevation in the farm. These ponds have been used to grow freshwater fish.

Irrigation Pipelines

Water is delivered from the well to any corner of the field using underground irrigation pipes which span a total length of 2500ft. This prevents significant loss of water due to evaporation.
