ARBORETUM

Windbreaks / Boundary Hedge

At the boundaries of the farm are the celestial Palmyra palm trees. We started planting the palms in the year 2012. It's been 8 years and they have grown to a height of 6ft. We also have the palm from Jaffna planted which is known to be bigger and better in terms of fruit size and taste. The farm currently has about 1500 palm trees and this will increase to greater than 2000 in the near future. The palms also form the natural fence of the farm.

Timber Trees

The farm also has rows of timber trees planted on one side of broad bunds. Various species include Malabar Neem (Malai vembu), Mahogany, Indian Kino (Vengai), Indian Tulip (Poovarasu), Bamboo (Moongil) and Rosewood. The predominant timber species is Vengai. The saplings were planted in the year 2017.

Other Trees

Several tree species border the fence around the cowshed and are unique in the sense that they are tree species of Southern India planted in order to conserve them as well as provide good shade for the cows. The saplings were planted in the year 2020 and add to a total collection of more than 150 unique tree species on the farm thus making the farm also an arboretum (a garden devoted to trees).
